I dream about self-driving cars! Although I'd be terrified to actually try one, I probably would because I get sick of driving really fast! But what I really hate more than driving itself is feeling bored and like I'm wasting my time! As a mom with young kids, I already feel like I’m constantly in the car! At first, this really annoyed me and brought back memories of my long commute when we first got married. We were newlyweds and my commute took me to college where I was SO over being a student and ready to move on! Needless to say, I’m glad that season of life is over. 😊
Now that I'm driving more often again, I found myself frustrated with what I considered “wasted, non-productive” time. I needed a solution and I needed something that would make me feel less like a chauffeur and actually excited to get in my car and drive.
So what did I do?
I turned my driving time into my learning/self-improvement time by listening to podcasts and it has really made a difference! Now instead of dreading my driving time, I look forward to it! (insert happy dance!)
Every time I get into my SUV, I turn on a podcast or audiobook and turn my Chevy Equinox into my private university. On average I listen to 8-12 podcasts a week, sometimes more if I'm getting in my long runs. Yes, I listen to podcasts and audiobooks instead of music when I run. I know, I'm weird! But I love to listen to content that encourages me in my everyday life and gives me practical tips on how to work towards my goals. You can seriously find a podcast for everything!
You may be asking yourself, why listen to podcasts/audiobooks in your car instead of music? If you are serious about growing and becoming the best version of you, it's time to take a serious look at what you're consuming. I don't just mean food, although that's always a good thing to look at too! I mean, what are you listening too? What words are you allowing to be spoken over you? Are you allowing positive and encouraging conversations to fill your mind or are you just allowing negativity and meaningless garbage to fill your brain? If you're serious about growing and reaching the potential that you know is deep inside of you, then get some good stuff in you!!!
It is amazing how much better I feel after I listen to an uplifting and challenging podcast. I not only feel mentally challenged, but I also feel this desire within me to become the best version of me. I'm a happier wife, a more engaged mom and I feel more confident in myself. I know this doesn't happen overnight and it's a process... some day's it's a LONG process! 😉 But, if I'm not consciously making the effort to grow my thinking and my mindset, then girl, I will never change!!!
So let me ask you a question?
Do you want to improve? Do you want to grow? Are you taking advantage of opportunities and making the conscious choice to grow and learn OR are you reverting to what is easy? If you want to grow, you have to learn! It's that easy! 😊
There is endless potential inside each and every one of us! All we have to do is tap into that and grow it! Don't let it overwhelm you. Why not start by simply making a choice to listen to one podcast a week and find one that you think will stretch and challenge you in the areas you want to grow!
